How to organize your Downloads folder automatically
A Downloads folder fills up fast: screenshots, PDFs, installers, videos, all in one pile. Sorting it by hand takes a while, and most tools need rules you have to set up first.
With MatrixX you just ask. It looks at what's in the folder, makes folders that fit, moves each file into the right one and gives you a list of what went where.

- Install MatrixX and create a free account
Windows 10 and 11, or Mac with an Apple chip (beta).
- Ask it to sort the folder
For example: "Sort my Downloads folder into Pictures, Documents and Videos."
- Check the result
MatrixX tells you which files went into which folder. You can ask it to change anything, like "put the PDFs in their own folder".
Things you can ask
- “Sort my Downloads folder into Pictures, Documents and Videos”
- “Move every installer (.exe or .dmg) in Downloads into a folder called Installers”
- “Rename the screenshots in Downloads so their names start with the date”
- “Every Sunday at 6 pm, sort my Downloads folder”
Questions
Will it delete my files?
It moves and renames files when you ask it to. For anything risky, like running code, it asks first and waits for you to click Allow.
Can it keep the folder sorted?
Yes. Ask it to do it on a schedule, for example every Sunday, and it runs by itself while your computer is on.
Does it work on Mac?
Yes, on Macs with Apple chips (M1 or newer) and macOS 11 or later, in beta.
